Overview
The Schonstedt GA-52Cx Magnetic Locator is a gold standard in magnetic detection, trusted by surveyors, utility contractors, construction professionals, and public works departments worldwide. Designed for the precise location of ferrous (iron-containing) underground objects, this robust and highly sensitive locator is purpose-built to streamline field operations—delivering accurate, fast, and reliable results under virtually any environmental condition.
Backed by Schonstedt’s industry-leading reputation and a generous 7-year warranty, the GA-52Cx is a critical asset for anyone who needs to detect deeply buried objects such as survey markers, manhole covers, valve boxes, well casings, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) with confidence and ease.
Key Features and Benefits
Superior Magnetic Detection with HeliFlux® Sensors
At the heart of the GA-52Cx is Schonstedt’s proprietary HeliFlux® magnetic sensor technology, engineered to provide ultra-sensitive detection of ferrous metals—even at significant depths. It effortlessly detects:
- Iron pipes and valve covers
- Property pins and markers
- Steel drums and tanks
- Unexploded ordnance and military relics
With the ability to detect objects as deep as 5 meters (16 feet) depending on size and soil conditions, the GA-52Cx remains one of the most capable magnetic locators on the market.
Ferrous-Only Detection (No False Alarms)
The GA-52Cx is designed to detect only ferrous metals. This eliminates the frustration of false signals from aluminum, brass, or copper—making it perfect for locating assets in mixed-material environments, including construction zones and cluttered utility corridors.
Simplicity Meets Precision
The interface is minimalistic by design:
- Two simple controls: On/Off & Sensitivity, and Volume adjustment
- Both switches are recessed beneath a weather-sealed membrane, allowing for one-handed operation
- No screen necessary—the device provides real-time audio tone feedback, which increases in frequency and pitch as the user nears the target
This intuitive design makes it ideal for both seasoned operators and new users alike.
Audio Feedback for Pinpoint Accuracy
Audio tones are the primary feedback method, delivering a clean 40 Hz idle tone that increases in intensity when a magnetic anomaly is detected. This auditory guidance ensures:
- Precise pinpointing without visual distractions
- No guesswork, even in bright sunlight or wet environments
Rugged, Field-Ready Design
Built with durability in mind, the GA-52Cx boasts:
- An all-metal aluminum casing for maximum protection
- Fully solid-state circuitry for long-term reliability
- Water-resistant construction for use in rain, snow, or muddy job sites
- Lightweight and ergonomic form factor (just over 1kg)
The instrument is engineered for demanding environments—whether you're tracking utility lines in an urban setting or locating markers in remote terrain.
